WOODEN SPOON CARVING

Back by popular demand is the Spoon master himself! A day spoon carving with Spoonsmith is an unhurried and mellow experience where you learn to use the tools of the trade in a safe and effective way. This workshop will guide you through the stages of axe work, knife work and hollowing out the bowl (that exciting part of the day when the spoon emerges). Learn about sourcing sustainable materials, the basics of traditional tool use, and how to safely turn a log into your favourite wooden utensil. Everyone starts with a log of sustainably sourced native timber and ends up with a spoon or two! And all the shavings will be composted at our farm.

In this workshop you will be creating and designing with Shibori and Indigo on your own shawl + Furoshiki wrapping cloths - a traditional Japanese technique to package and transport gifts - as a sustainable alternative to wrapping paper! The wraps are a beautiful and environmentally friendly way to gift-give, and can be used over and over again for other occasions.
