SESSION OUTLINES

+ URBAN FARM ADVENTURE

Geography // Features of Places
Children take a tour of the farm and learn about the methods we use to take care of the land where we are growing. They’ll get to observe and discuss native bees, beneficial flowers, chooks and a range of vegetables. Might even be able to get into some weeding... if they’re lucky.
Time: 2 hours // Cost: $15 per child (minimum cost $300)

+ FARMERS ARE DOCTORS

Geography / The Earth’s Environment
Children learn about the nutritional value of organic vegetables and how farmers look after the natural eco- system to ensure healthy plants are grown. They pick from the farm and make lunch with their pickings. Herbal teas are made and sipped while their medicinal benefits are discussed.
Time: 2 hours // Cost: $25 per child (minimum cost $500)

+ SUSTAINABILITY – WHAT THE?

Geography / The Earth's Environment
What does ‘sustainable’ actually mean? Children hear this word thrown around on a daily basis. But what does it really mean? Students learn about the true definition, workshop the ‘ethics triangle’ and learn about how Pocket City Farms has adopted sustainable practices and principles to protect and improve our patch of land.

+ FUN-GI

Science / Living World
The mysterious world of fungi and mushrooms are revealed. These decomposers are essential in our eco-system and play a main role underneath the soil in allowing plants to produce. Whack on a lab coat, grab a microscope and get mycelium mad! Make some mushroom art to top it all off.

+ GDAY MATE

Science / Living World
Children learn about the harmonious friendship between plants and animals. They learn about beneficial bugs and plants, the sun and chooks.

+ THE FOOD WASTE LOOP

Science // Living World
Children learn how to reduce their food waste at home and build their school a worm farm, so the learnings from the day can be put into practice. They learn about the benefits of worms and compost for soil.
