NASTURTIUM

If you are looking for an annual plant that provides your garden with color and some protection from insects, you can't go past Nasturtiums (Tropaeolum). Their bright and happy flowers and delicious scent not only brighten up your garden, but can also be used in your kitchen as both the leaves and flowers are edible. This is a real champion plant and a must have for any vegetable garden!

PLANT

Spring to early autumn, Nasturtium takes 2-3 weeks for germination from planting.

HARVEST

Nasturtium is ready for harvest in 10-12 weeks. The plant is ready for harvest when it is at least 15 cm tall. Gather flowers, leaves and seed early in the morning, snip the flower from its base to acid bitter taste of stem. Pick flowers regularly for prolong its flowering period.

EAT

Both the leaves and flowers are edible and add a peppery flavour to dishes.

PRESERVE

The leaves and flowers can be dried or alternatively, make a nasturtium vinegar and use for salad dressings and sauces later.
