OLIVE

Olea europaea

Olive trees are wonderfully ornamental and they produce delicious fruit, too. What a bonus! You do have to pickle them before you can eat, but we think it’s all part of the fun. Olive trees can take up to 4-5 years before they produce fruit, but they will live for many years to come.

PLANT

All year round, preferably Autumn to Winter.

HARVEST

3-4 years after planting, from mid-Autumn to early Winter, depending on your location. Olives are ready to pick when they turn from dark green to light green or wait for them to turn black. Trees grow up to 5-7 metres tall.

EAt

Once matured olives are a good companion in pasta, salad, breads, or pizza and don't forget to add a drizzle of olive oil right before serving.

PRESERVE

Preserve your olives in oil or brine, or salt cure them for something different.
