YARROW
Achillea millefolium
Yarrow is a traditional herb which has been used for teas and salads. Both the flowers and the leaves have a pungent taste and it is believed to be a good remedy in the early stages of children's colds and fevers. This perennial herb is easy to grow and has very few pests or diseases. The pink, red to yellow flowers bloom from spring to summer and attract butterflies and bees.
PLANT
Plant yarrow during early spring to mid summer. Seeds take 14 - 21 days to germinate.
HARVEST
Pick leaves as and when needed for medicinal use or cut flowers for arrangements.
EAt
Yarrow flowers and leaves can be added to any savoury dish for a peppery and bitter flavour. A good addition to salads or vegetables or simply use the flowers for a decorative garnish.
PRESERVE
Dry leaves and flowers by spreading across an oven tray and placing in a low temperature oven until the plant is crunchy and snaps easily.
